Brian Paquette has long been fascinated by how humans interact with art in space. Coming from a background in conceptual art, he founded Brian Paquette Interiors in 2008 with the simple aim of making houses into homes. In Suite 512, Paquette and lead designer Nicole Murillo have juxtaposed old and new, traditional with offbeat, revealing the Sorrento’s history while activating the room with new pieces from Seattle’s upstart design movement, including artists Noble Neon, Katy Krantz, Jihee Kim and April Brimer.
“Everything leaves an imprint,” Paquette says. “Art is not just something to frame on a wall and artists are not just passive players in our lives.”
About the Designer Suites
Our roots are showing—and we don’t mind. As the oldest boutique hotel in Seattle, the Sorrento wears its history proudly. You can see it in the building’s stately construction and feel it in the elegant ambiance of every room. Part of our history is innovation, working with generations of Seattle’s best builders, designers and decorators. We continue that history today with our Designer Suites.
With our most recent renovation, we apportioned three guest suites to three Seattle designers, encouraging them to unleash their individual sense of style on the room’s blank canvas. Each comes from a different facet of the city’s burgeoning design community and brings a different set of skills and influences to the project—and we couldn’t be more excited by their work. These are the people establishing the new aesthetic of the Pacific Northwest. And as always, the Sorrento is at the center.
